A YEAR IN REVIEW

LEFTZ turns 1!

Even though my creations are so young and still new to a lot of people, I thought I would take this time to show how far I have come in 1 year. From the moment I started, sewing became my passion. It allows me to be creative and to do things I thought weren't possible. Let's take a look at a couple of early designs.

Though I'm not allowed to choose favorites, secretly I do, and Dale has won. Dale's basic body shape hasn't changed too much, but now his "scars" are more defined, and his blank stare is replaced with a spark of playfulness.

Luke the giraffe has taken big strides and now has legs to run around on. He steps away from being a wallflower and comes to life with definition and character.

Along with figuring out how to make my plush more than just flat objects, I discovered how to photograph them so that they came to life. The contrast on my older photos was insanely too high and the true colors were difficult to tell. I try to tell a story with my new photos but without cluttering them with tons of objects.

As you can see my lighting and angles have changed. My photos have gone from dark, poorly lit to well lit with interesting angles, showing off all the features of my creations.

This year has been full of laughter and tears. I've discovered a love for sewing that I never knew I had. I've surprised myself with designs that I didn't think I could create. I've gone from swearing off sewing because I can't follow patterns to being published in a magazine dedicated to plush. -- No books, no patterns, just me.

Everyone I have met along the way has had their part in my creations. From silly late night conversations to words of encouragement from friends, all these things together have kept me on my toes and yearning to learn and create more.

Thank you to everyone who has smiled at the sight of a one-eyed plush and thought,
"I wonder if she hugged or punched that one..?" ;)

It's funny how we get better and forget all the work that took to get there! It's very obvious when you put those photos side by side that you've come leaps and bounds. Great work on the Leftz and keep up the fabulous work! Peanut sends you cheers from his hallowed spot on my dresser.

I didn't realise you'd only been making plush for 1 year! amazing! What got you started with plush making?

Thanks everyone!

Out of the frame, my mom was cleaning out her craft room and I ended up with bags of scrap fabric. I really had no idea what to do with it. I had tried sewing before (quilts) but they never lined up right. We found a Singer sewing machine at a garage sale for $25 and I started playing around. Since then I havent been able to stop :))
